Wednesday's Word

Scripture (Jeremiah 18:1-6)

This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord: “Go down to the potter’s house, and there I will give you my message.” So I went down to the potter’s house, and I saw him working at the wheel. But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him. Then the word of the Lord came to me. He said, “Can I not do with you, Israel, as this potter does?” declares the Lord. “Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, Israel. 


Reflection

God sent Jeremiah down to the potter's house to watch a lesson unfold. The potter was shaping a vessel at the wheel, and when it became marred in his hands, he didn't throw the clay away. He reworked it, right there, into another vessel, as seemed best to him. That's what it looks like when God is still shaping us. Whatever in you feels marred right now, whether it's a habit, a relationship, or a wound, that's not disqualifying material. That's exactly the material the Potter works with. You're not being discarded. You're being reworked.


Today's Takeaway

Being reworked is not the same thing as being rejected. If God is still shaping you, that is not a sign you have failed; it is a sign you are still useful clay. 


Today's To Do
Name one place in your life where you feel marred rather than finished. Instead of rushing to fix it yourself, simply tell God, "You're still working on this — and so am I." Then reach out to one other person and remind them of the same thing: they're not discarded, they're still being shaped.

  • Game Day: We're bringing "Game Night" fun to the afternoon. There will be games that you'll play solo and games you'll have to play as a team. Bring the whole family. It's always a good time.
  • Church Cookout: Hopefully, the weather will be a little cooler as we enjoy food, fellowship, and some field day games out on the church parking lot.
  • 159th Church Anniversary Worship: Plan to attend, sing in the choir, usher, etc. All members who are able are asked to give $159, $59, or $15.90 above your tithes and offerings. When giving it, please note it is for Church Anniversary.
  • Stay Tuned for a Lip Sync Battle later in the fall...

In an effort to keep everyone safe during worship and ministry activities, our Trustees are asking all members and guests to help us maintain a secure environment. In this current climate, we must all do our part to stay vigilant and protect one another. Please remember the following important guidelines:

Be aware of your surroundings at all times while on church property. If you see something that doesn’t feel right, notify a Trustee or Staff Person immediately.

Do not prop open any exterior doors under any circumstances. All doors should remain closed and locked unless they are being actively monitored.

Arrive on Time for Worship: Arriving on time also helps us maintain a secure environment, as it reduces the need to open the exterior doors multiple times once worship has begun.

Exit the building promptly after worship and other events so that our Trustees can properly secure the church.
